Trying to get some work done ...?

After taking Alice to the park, I tried to grade a few exams. She decided it might be a better idea to draw with the red pen.

I moved out to the "master bedroom" (né "living room") but Alice decided to rejoin me. Somewhere along the way Alice lost her clothes (and found some hairclips).

Are You In? Okaaaay, bye.

Alice has a very well-equipped kitchen. Here she is buzzing someone in through the front door downstairs. (She sometimes asks, "did it work? did it work? okay, bye.")

favorite tunes

I tried playing records by Paul Simon and Carole King for Alice, to which she always responded, "You don't like it!" So now we play her current favorites, including "Ambient #4 - On Land" by Brian Eno, "Revenge" by The Flying Luttenbachers, "Relics" by DMZ, and The Jimmy Castor Bunch's "Phase Two"...The Flying Luttenbachers record jacket is fluorescent pink with an angry robot on the cover - that one gets carried around the apartment. (Evan says, "How do you know the robot's angry?") With respect to "Phase Two," Alice likes to say, "He looks happy. He's wearing red. He's jumping!"

block house

Alice built this house out of foam blocks on the edge of our bathtub the other day:

small talks with small peoples

Alice and Arek were swinging next to each other (on the big kid swings) at the playground this morning. Alice turned to Arek and said "Bunny's eating his good supper." Evan pointed out, "You're making small talk, Alice." Alice exclaimed, "You did some small talks!"

bee and praying mantis battle on a sunflower

Here are a couple of photos taken by our neighbor. Alice grew this sunflower from a seed, and today there was a praying mantis battling a bee right on her flower. I wish we had gotten to see this, but this morning we were busy looking at the giant squid battling the whale at the Museum of Natural History. I guess we all have our own battles to fight. Current ones at home typically involve bathing suits and a potty. The sunflower is about 4 feet tall.
